3 Ways To Use Technology to Be a Better Pastor [2025]
Whether you’re starting off a new year, starting a new position, or just want to get educated on how to utilize technology well, we want to outline for you three simple ways to use technology to be a better pastor for your congregation. Before we begin, part of the answer is not using technology when you don’t need to. As a pastor, your call is to shepherd the flock of God that is among you (1 Peter 5) and to pay careful attention to yourself and the flock (Acts 20:28). You don’t “need” technology to study the bible and preach the word, that should be said right off the bat. But there are ways that we can use technology to better our pastorship and better serve our people:
1. Use technology to better pray for your congregation
Whether you keep your member data in excel, Planning Center, or have a printed Church Membership Directory, it’s vitally important to know who your sheep are and pray for them regularly. As we mentioned, you don’t “need” technology for this, but it can be incredibly helpful to use it to make sure you have access at the touch of your fingertips.
2. Use technology to better track conversations you’re having and get reminders to follow up
It can be difficult to remember conversations you’ve had in the past and even more difficult to remember the all of the details as time goes on. Even with efforts to keep notes on certain individuals or conversations, usually that can lead to those notes ending up in a few different places (Apple notes, a piece of paper nearby, your head, text messages, etc.).
