5 Best Reformed Church Finders [2026]
One of the challenges many believers face is: When I move or travel, how do I find a good, biblically faithful church? That’s where church finder tools come in. A “church finder” is essentially a directory or search engine that lists churches (often filtered by doctrinal or ecclesial criteria) so people can locate congregations aligned (or roughly aligned) with their convictions in a geographic area.
We at SolaSites don’t provide our own church finder yet, but we believe such a tool is valuable. In the meantime, here are a few already existing, helpful church finders you can use. Below is background on each, how they work, their strengths and caveats, and tips for using them wisely.
What to Look For in a Church Finder
Before jumping into the list, here are a few guardrails for using church finders well (and not blindly):
- Not endorsements. A church being listed does not mean the directory or its sponsor fully endorses every doctrine, member, or practice of that church. Always vet a local church personally (doctrinal statements, preaching samples, elders, community).
- Filter criteria. Some church finders require or rely on churches submitting themselves; others impose doctrinal filters. Be aware of what the directory requires.
- Up-to-date data. Churches move, merge, close, change address or pastoral leadership. A directory is only as good as its updates.
- Limited coverage. No directory is exhaustive. Many solid churches won’t appear. Use church finders as a starting point, not the only method.
With that in mind, here are four church finders worth knowing.
1. Locate.Church Church Finder
Locate.Church is a new church finder that combines all of the church finders below into one centralized source. It can be immensely helpful when traveling, moving to a new area, or recommending a church to a friends. While in its infancy, it’s proven to be a valuable resource when there’s not a particular church finder that is your “go to”, or if you do have a go to church finder, this can offer a wider range of churches in areas where you can’t find a church that meets your needs.
Strengths
- Largest list of reformed churches.
- You can select between multiple church finders that you like and see all churches that apply.
- You can even select between certain confessions as well which is very helpful!
Caveats / Things to Watch
- Some of the filters can be difficult to use at times.
- While the list of churches on Locate Church includes the church finders below, there are some non-reformed churches on the site. Make sure to vet the church further before going or recommending.
Tips for Use
- Search by area first, then filter down into the search criteria you are most interested in.
2. 9Marks Church Finder
URL: https://www.9marks.org/church-search
Background & Purpose
9Marks is a ministry founded by Mark Dever and others, focused on helping churches become healthy according to biblical standards (the “nine marks”) and equipping church leaders and members. Their church search is one of their tools to help people locate churches that align with their values of gospel faithfulness, elder-led structure, discipleship, church discipline, etc.
The search function allows you to search by city, state, or ZIP code, and displays churches with some basic info (name, address, links).
Strengths
- Because 9Marks is well-known in evangelical and reformed circles, many churches that self-identify with those networks or values list themselves here, making it a useful filter.
- Their emphasis on church health gives a signal: churches that choose to be listed often desire some accountability or visibility under those standards.
- It is widely used and known—so people often trust it as a reference point.
Caveats / Things to Watch
- Being listed doesn’t mean full alignment: 9Marks explicitly states that listing is not an endorsement.
- Some regions are more thoroughly covered than others. In rural or less evangelical-dense areas, results may be sparse.
- A church might list itself under 9Marks while having local practices you wouldn’t agree with—always verify locally.
Tips for Use
- Use it in combination with maps and website links to listen to sermons and check doctrinal statements.
- Use the map or radius filters to find churches near you.
- If a church doesn’t appear, check neighboring towns or counties; many congregations are just outside city limits.
3. The Master’s Seminary Alumni Church Finder
URL: https://tms.edu/find-a-church
Background & Purpose
The Master’s Seminary (TMS), pastored by John MacArthur, trains pastors and church leaders in a theologically conservative, expository preaching tradition. The Alumni Church Finder lists churches where TMS alumni serve.
The idea is: if you find a TMS alumnus as pastor in a church, you may have a higher chance that preaching style, doctrinal conservatism, and biblical emphasis align with what you hope for.
Strengths
- Provides a narrower filter: you’re locating churches led by pastors who went through training in a known seminary tradition. That can give an extra layer of confidence for people who value seminary pedigree.
- Global reach: the finder includes churches not only in the U.S. but abroad (with location search options).
- Because it’s tied to alumni, it’s somewhat maintained (pastors update their affiliations).
Caveats / Things to Watch
- A pastor attending TMS is not a guarantee the congregation perfectly mirrors everything taught at TMS. Local context, elder teams, and congregational culture still matter.
- Churches change pastors. The listing may not always reflect the most recent pastor.
- In areas with few or no TMS alumni, your search may come up empty.
Tips for Use
- Use the map view to see all TMS-led churches around your area.
- When you find a church, check whether the pastor is a current alumnus, and then review that church’s own teachings.
- Don’t discard other good churches just because they don’t have a TMS-trained pastor—but this tool helps narrow the field.
4. Founders Church Finder
URL: https://church.founders.org/
Background & Purpose
Founders Ministries is a gospel-focused ministry seeking the recovery of gospel ministry and biblical reformation in local churches. Their church finder lists congregations that voluntarily agree with Founders’ values and give their alignment with certain theological principles.
When you search a zip or city, you get churches that self-report agreement with Founders’ criteria: Bible-believing, gospel-focused, Christ-centered.
Strengths
- Because churches must voluntarily submit to be listed, there is some level of self-report filtering, which helps reduce noise.
- For those seeking churches with a strong gospel-centered, reformation-minded emphasis, this directory gives a narrower, curated list.
- The interface is user-friendly, with radius search and state-by-state lists.
Caveats / Things to Watch
- Churches listed are not fully vetted or guaranteed; Founders disclaims that they can’t endorse every detail.
- The “voluntary submission” model means many good churches may not choose to register, so absence doesn’t mean disqualification.
- In certain regions, especially where reformed / confessional churches are fewer, results may be limited.
Tips for Use
- Use this as a “pre-screened shortlist” and then dig deeper into each church (listen to sermons, check elder qualifications, community life).
- When traveling, this is a great tool to find a gospel-centered church in your destination area.
- Use their volunteering / “submit your church” functions if you know a good church that is missing.
5. Reformed Baptist Churches Directory
URL: https://reformedbaptistchurches.com/
Background & Purpose
This directory is maintained by volunteers, mapping churches worldwide that identify as Reformed & Baptist (often those subscribing to the 1689 London Baptist Confession or similar statements).
The Reformed Baptist Network (RBNet) is also an association of churches under that theological umbrella; their church locator is another option.
Strengths
- For those specifically seeking a Reformed Baptist congregation, this is one of the best-targeted directories.
- The directory often includes maps, location pins, and doctrinal icons indicating historic confessions held by each church.
- The volunteer model helps keep the directory focused—churches that care about identity and public listing will tend to join.
Caveats / Things to Watch
- Because of the decentralized volunteer nature, some listings may be outdated or inaccurate.
- Not every Reformed Baptist church is listed. Some may prefer privacy or are not aware of the directory.
- The broad “Reformed & Baptist” label does not guarantee uniformity across congregations—there will still be theological differences.
Tips for Use
- Use the map filters or search by region to narrow to your area.
- After locating a candidate church, check its doctrinal statement and recent sermons.
- Cross-reference with other directories (e.g. RBNet) to see overlap or differences in listings.
Using Multiple Church Finders Wisely
Because each directory has strengths and limitations, here’s a strategy you might follow:
- Start broad. Use directories for a wide net. It’s hard to tell the level of subscription or what the church will actually be like, but it’s a great place to start.
- Vet and visit. For each church you find, look into things further: listen to sermons, review their church constitution/statement of faith, understand their elder/leadership structure, look at reviews online, attend in person, talk with members.
- Get input. Ask friends, local Christians, or pastors in your destination area whether they know of faithful churches (sometimes word-of-mouth beats directories).
